The Less Developed Census Tract Tax Credit

Less Developed Census Tract

Every year, the State of Georgia ranks its census tracts according to Georgia Code Section 48-7-40.1(b). The least economically stable census tracts are designated as less developed census tract areas and companies within these areas are eligible for the tax credit program.

The types of industries that can take advantage of the less developed census tract are:

  1. Manufacturing
  2. Warehousing and distribution
  3. Processing
  4. Telecommunications
  5. Broadcasting
  6. Tourism (including hotels)
  7. Research and Development

In order to qualify for the credit, companies in these industries have to create and maintain at least two full time W-2 employees.  Companies can generate up to $3,500 per employee per job.
